How This Works

UTC conversion: local time − UTC offset = UTC time. Then UTC + destination offset = destination local time. UK uses GMT (UTC+0) in winter and BST (UTC+1) in summer. When scheduling internationally, aim for times that fall within 9am–6pm working hours for all key participants.

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) are almost identical — both are the reference point (offset 0). UTC is the scientific standard based on atomic clocks; GMT is the time zone. UK uses GMT in winter (Oct–Mar) and BST (British Summer Time, UTC+1) in summer (Mar–Oct). For most practical purposes they are interchangeable.
